It’s been two whole weeks since I last saw Lauren & Cody for their Boulder, Colorado engagement session! That weekend was seriously something MAGICAL! This was my first DESTINATION engagement session and they took me to the one and only Red Rocks Amphitheater at sunrise! I’ve only ever dreamed of visiting the world renowned venue, and during the last weekend of September, that dream came true! But it doesn’t end there! At sunset, we drove into the Boulder Flatirons to wrap up our time together and I swear I have never been more in love with Colorado!

The entire week leading up to my arrival had been super rainy compared to Boulder’s usual weather. So we had our fingers crossed that the gloomy weather would clear up just for us. At sunrise, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky, but as the day went on, it got more and more cloudy, so we had to decide… do our session in the afternoon when it wasn’t raining, or hope for clear skies at sunset. We changed our plans about a thousand times before we decided to stick it out and continue our session at sunset, rain or shine. And let me tell you, that was the best decision ever.

Before we left to head into the Flatirons for their sunset engagement session, we took their two puppers out for a few quick photos in their backyard! After spending the day with these pups and really getting to know them, I was convinced that this part of the day was going to be the hardest. Roux & Rylo were wild cards; insanely hyper, always stirring up trouble, and never sitting for more than a minute at a time. But when the time came for family photos, they behaved so well for mom & dad! Lauren & Cody were SO proud of their little fur babies! It was adorable! But, during their family photos, we saw a huge storm rolling in off in the distance. And that meant, it was go time! We had to beat the storm!

On our way up, we could see the Flatirons… and they were covered in rain and fog. SO SAD. But also, Colorado rarely gets weather like that, so it was pretty special to see the mountains like that! And here’s where the real magic comes in! We were headed through a small town, windshield wipers on full speed, about 2 minutes away from our location, when all of a sudden the raindrops started shimmering in the sunlight!

That was our cue to speed the rest of the way up, because when it’s sunny AND rainy, that can only mean one thing… a RAINBOW!! Definitely not just any ordinary rainbow. This one was a full, huge, double rainbow, so bright that every single color showed up perfectly on camera! I was basically screaming with excitement. Actually, I WAS screaming with excitement! We quickly pulled off on the side of the road to snap a few portraits with Lauren & Cody before the rainbow disappeared. This moment was hands down one of the most magical things I’ve ever experienced!

We finished off our Boulder, Colorado engagement session in a beautiful grassy field surrounded by the Flatirons! P.S. This is the same location where we will take Lauren & Cody’s first look portraits AND wedding party portraits in June! Talk about amazing! This entire weekend was literally a dream come true! I just can’t believe how lucky I am to have people like Lauren & Cody in my life! I’m basically already packed and ready to leave for their bohemian Colorado wedding next year! This day can not come any sooner!
