Turkey Run Sunrise Engagement {Sarah & Chris}

Turkey Run Sunrise EngagementWe are so excited to share our very first engagement session of 2018 with you today! We really couldn’t have hand-picked a more perfect session to kick off this season with! Sarah & Chris love to hike, camp, travel, and just be outdoors whenever they can, so a Turkey Run sunrise engagement session was an obvious choice for them! These two met under complicated circumstances that would have pushed any relationship apart, but instead it brought them closer together! Sarah was attending her senior year of college in Alabama, and Chris happened to be stationed near her for military training. They met on Valentine’s day 4 years ago, but Sarah was not only going to graduate that year but also move to Europe, and Chris was going to move back to Indiana! Talk about serious long distance. But they made it work with many many extra long Skype sessions! Sarah finally made the move back to Indiana just last year so her and Chris took a weekend for themselves down at French Lick to explore, hike, and FINALLY have a getaway with each other! But what Sarah didn’t know was that Chris had a special surprised planned for her.

“That morning we got up at our cabin and went down to the lake on a forgotten trail that we had to battle spiders and knee high grass to get to a beautiful view of the lake. And as soon as we get down there we take a few pictures and Chris says- I’m starving- do you want to get some breakfast and go to town before we do more hiking for the day- I just want to stop by the cabin first. (He realized he had forgotten the ring in his bag!). My life pretty much revolves around what Im going to eat next, so we go to town, we explore, and we set off on our second hike of the day. We hiked through dry river beds and jumped off a beaver dam. We scrambled up rocks and scaled up the sides of the river bed. And what I didn’t know is every time Chris gets ready to propose… we hear voices or see people! So when that hike ends, Chris wants to know if I’d like to go check out the Marina area and do another “short hike” and see the beach. When we got to the beach, every person in Indiana plus their extended relatives all were having a party (so no proposal for me there either). We start on a shorter version of a hike – which is good because my knee had begun to complain loudly, but quickly found out that all of the shortcut trails had grown over and been abandoned. What was supposed to be 1-2 miles turned into 4-5 miles! And I’m hobbling like a granny without her cane towards the end of it and there is grass up to our behinds. So eventually we have to turn around without seeing the overlook because without full body armor and blowtorches – we are not getting through that thicket. I can tell Chris is a little disappointed so when we get to the bottom and he wants to explore further – I feel horrible telling him- I don’t think my knee will do much more today. We head out to dinner and Chris takes a wrong turn that lands us back at the beach (sneaky sneaky). As I’m lost in my own world taking pictures, Chris calls my name, and there he is down on one knee! He asked me to marry him and I said yes!”

The day before their engagement session, we had to do some rearranging to our plans. Around sunset, the weather was scheduled to drizzle, or pour, or snow, or who knows because it’s Indiana. So we made the call to head down to their Turkey Run engagement session at sunrise! Very quickly Tanner and I realized how extremely photogenic Sarah & Chris are! Not only in their Southern style appearance, but also in the way that everything seemed to come so naturally to them. Posing can definitely be awkward sometimes. I mean, it’s not every day that you dress up at sunrise and touch your noses together. What looks the most natural on camera rarely feels natural in real life. From my perspective, it felt like I could ask them to stand on their heads backwards and they would still make it look romantic and effortless. And I think that’s a real testament to their relationship. They were just comfortable. There was just this easy, relaxed vibe throughout their entire session and it was awesome! Their love was this mature, and kind, and genuine, force that could totally take the world by storm.

We honestly could not have asked for anything more. Their Turkey Run sunrise engagement session was the best way to start our 2018 season. And their Georgia wedding will be our last one of the year in November! We don’t have to wonder if their wedding will be as amazing as their engagement session… we know for certain that it will be even better when they’re surrounded by their friends and family! Sarah & Chris, I have LOVED every second of our time together and I can’t wait to do this all over again at your wedding!
